The Management of Bayelsa Medical University (BMU) Yenagoa paid a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor of University of Ondo State University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Prof. Friday Okonofua on 2nd June, 2019. During the visit, Professor Ebitimitula Nicholas Etebu, Ag. Vice Chancellor of The Bayelsa Medical University (BMU) Yenagoa appealed to Management of the Ondo State University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), to partner with the Bayelsa Medical University (BMU) in its quest to lay a strong foundation and develop to an international Medical University. Prof. Etebu who congratulated Prof. Friday Okonofua for making the Ondo State Medical University a success story so far said the aim of the visit was to learn from his experience in the area of infrastructure development, library, curriculum development, planning and administration. He congratulated the VC for successfully securing full accreditation of its 14 programmes barely less than 5 years of their existence. He said the Mandate from HE the Governor Henry Seriake Dickson was for him to expand BMU’s visibility and reposition it nationally and internationally while serving the local communities. Responding, the Vice Chancellor of the Ondo State University of Medical Sciences, Professor Friday Okonofua, FAS appreciated the honour given to him by the visit of BMU management team and thanked the Management of BMU for finding UNIMED worthy of playing that advisory role. He called on the Ag. VC BMU to exercise transparency, effectiveness, and accountability to practice a non-discriminatory approach, openness, fairness and consideration in managing the Affairs of the University. He mentioned that he looks forward to a wonderful and fruitful collaboration with the BMU and suggested that medical students training should not be carried out by medical practitioners alone but must also include aspects like ethics, communication skills and languages adding that this kind of training will broaden their horizon. In conclusion, Prof. Friday Okonufua who led the BMU team on a facility tour invited the Vice Chancellor to the graduation ceremony of its medical students in December 2019. The event ended with an exchange an exchange of souvenirs and a group photograph. The delegation from The Bayelsa Medical University on the entourage of the Ag. Vice Chancellor were Pharmacist Tuate Alagoa-Nene ( BMU Governing Council member), Prof. P.J. Alagoa (Deputy Vice Chancellor), Dr. Akpoebi Edesi (Registrar). Prof. Olu Ochinowo, Professor of surgery and Consultant general surgeon (Director Planning), Prof. Uche Onwudiegwu (Consultant). Mr. Benaiah Oye, Project Coordinator and Ag. Director Works, Dr. Goagha Berezi (Executive Assistant to the Vice Chancellor), and Mr. Diepreye Solomon(Senior Assistant Registrar) and Mrs. Teibowei Marie(Public Relations Officer).
