BAYELSA MEDICAL UNIVERSITY ON THE MOVE TO ADVANCE MEDICAL EDUCATION, RESEARCH AND INNOVATIONS BEYOND BORDERS AS SHE COLLABORATES WITH THE SENATE OF AFRICAN DIASPORA - TUESDAY 7TH OCTOBER, 2025.
The Bayelsa Medical University (BMU) continues to take bold strides on the global stage as it plays host to a high-powered delegation from the State of African Diaspora, a socio-political entity endorsed by the African Union (AU) to integrate Africans in the diaspora into Africa’s continental development.
Leading the delegation is His Excellency, Dr. Louis-Georges Tin, the Prime Minister of SOAD, accompanied by other distinguished dignitaries including H.E. Princess Elsie Amatusero, H.E. Aubrey Richter, H.E. Sebastian Thembo, and Dr. Johnson Onyemah, among other state dignitaries.
Earlier received by the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, the delegation also visited the Niger Delta University before arriving at the Bayelsa Medical University for a strategic meeting with the University Management Team.
The visit marks a significant step towards global collaboration as SOAD seeks partnership with BMU in key areas such as digital diagnosis, research, disease control, biotechnology, pharmaceutical production, funding and infrastructure support, dialysis services, innovation laboratories, digital medical archiving, traditional medicine, and the fight against fake drugs.
Welcoming the delegation on behalf of the University, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Dimie Ogoina, expressed delight at hosting the team, describing BMU as one of the fastest growing universities in this side of the Niger. He emphasized that under his leadership, the institution has experienced exponential growth in both student population and international visibility.
Present at the meeting were top university officials including Prof. Tarila Tebepah (Pro-Chancellor/Chairman of Council), Prof. Aloysius E. Ligha (Deputy Vice-Chancellor), Prof. Godwill Zirihi (DVC, Sampou Campus), and several other principal officers, academics, and administrators who reaffirmed BMU’s commitment to global partnerships and innovation.
In his remarks, the Prime Minister of SOAD, Dr. Tin, highlighted the organization’s mission to foster unity, investment, and technology transfer between Africans abroad and their home countries, a vision that aligns perfectly with BMU’s ASPIRE agenda under Prof. Ogoina’s leadership.
The meeting concluded with facility tours and a debriefing session, setting the stage for what promises to be a transformative collaboration between Bayelsa State, BMU, and the global African diaspora.
