Professional Profile

Biography

Professor Ligha Aloysius Ebi is an accomplished physician, academic, and administrator with over two decades of teaching, research, and clinical experience. Trained as a medical doctor at the University of Ibadan, he advanced his studies with a Master’s degree in Anatomy (University of Lagos), a PhD in Anatomy (University of Port Harcourt), and a Doctor of Medicine in Radiology (University of Central Nicaragua). He is a proud Board-Certified Radiologist by the Philippine College of Radiology, Manila.

He rose through the academic ranks to become Professor of Anatomy in 2017 and has served in key leadership roles including Acting Head of Department of Human Anatomy, Head, Department of Medicine and Surgery, Sub-Dean, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, and Acting Provost at Niger Delta University. In 2024, he was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration & Academics) of Bayelsa Medical University, where he continues to shape institutional policy, curriculum, and research development.

Professor Ligha’s research spans radiological anatomy, histology, reproductive biology, and medical education, with special expertise in imaging-based approaches to anatomy teaching. He collaborates internationally through the OMERACT group on musculoskeletal imaging, with publications in local and global journals. His works address congenital malformations, radiological variations, antifertility drug effects, and imaging innovations in clinical anatomy.

Prof. Ligha has authored and co-authored several peer-reviewed journal articles in anatomy, radiology, and medical sciences. He delivered the 58th Inaugural Lecture of Niger Delta University (2024) on congenital malformations. Serves on editorial boards of multiple journals including the International Journal of Forensic Medical Investigation, Rivers State Journal of Multidisciplinary Studies and Advances Medicine & and Health Sciences Journal. He is a regular reviewer for local and international journals in anatomy and radiology.

Ebi is an external examiner for MBBS and postgraduate programs at several Nigerian universities. A Fellow of the Society of Experimental and Clinical Anatomists of Nigeria and Institute for Health Insurance and Managed Care of Nigeria. He is a member of professional bodies including the Nigerian Medical Association, Anatomical Society of Africa, American Association of Clinical Anatomists, and Society for Ultrasound Research and Education.

Prof. is committed to community service through health education, youth mentorship, and public health advocacy. He has delivered public lectures on the importance of healthcare, alcohol abuse prevention, and continues to support student and community associations across Bayelsa State.

Achievements

Prof. Ligha has over two decades of distinguished service in teaching, research, and university administration. He rose through the academic ranks to become a Professor in 2017 and has supervised, examined, and published extensively in anatomy and radiology. His works include over 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at international conferences.

He is an accomplished administrator, currently serving as Deputy Vice-Chancellor of BMU and chairing several key committees, including the Senate Curriculum and Instruction Committee, University Research Committee, and the Senate Student Disciplinary Committee.

Prof. Ligha has received numerous awards of excellence, including the Distinguished Award of Excellence from Ogriagbene Students’ Association (2010), Lecturer of the Year from the Nigerian Medical Association (2006), and recognition for delivering the 58th Inaugural Lecture of the Niger Delta University (2024). He has also benefited from major research grants, including a $90,000 doctoral research grant from NDDC.

He is a Fellow of the Institute for Health Insurance and Managed Care of Nigeria, Fellow of the Society of Experimental and Clinical Anatomists of Nigeria (FECAN), and member of several professional associations such as the Anatomical Society of Nigeria, Anatomical Society of Africa, and the Nigerian Medical Association.
