Prof. Ebitimitula Nicholas Etebu

Acting Vice Chancellor

Prof. Ebitimitula Nicholas Etebu was born on March 2, 1955. He hails from Odi Town, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area in Bayelsa State. He started his educational sojourn at Anglican Isoko School, Apapa, Lagos from 1961 - 1968. He proceeded to the Federal Government College, Warri for his Secondary Education from 1969 - 1973.
He went ahead to attend the University of Ibadan, for further studies and obtained an advance level certificate. He continued in this light to Kharkov State University, Ukraine (1974 - 1975), Lvov State Medical School, Ukraine (1975 - 1979), Kiev State Medical School, Ukraine (1979 - 1981) respectively.
He is a Member of the Nigerian Medical Association - NMA, Member, Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria - MDCAN, Member, Association of Pathologists of Nigeria - ASSOPON, Member, Sports Medicine Association of Nigeria - SMARS, Membera, Badminton Association of Nigeria and Pioneer of many Health advances and developments in Bayelsa State.
He had worked briefly with General Hospital, Port Harcourt as House Officer between 1981 - 1982. While participating in the mandatory NYSC scheme, he served in the General Hospital Kaltungo Specialist Hospital in Bauchi between 1982 - 1983. He was Medical Officer for the General Hospital in Brass, General Hospital in Agudama-Ekpetiama, General Hospital in Bodo (Rivers state) and Chest Clinic in Port Harcourt between 1983 - 1986. He was later appointed Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant at the University of Port Harcourt & University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital between 1998 - 2006.
He has over 45 published works in local and international journals and had attended numerous local and international conferences with presentation of papers. Prof. Ebitimitula Nicholas Etebu was Medical Director at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa (2006 - 2014). He was a Professor of Pathology in the Department of Anatomy & Pathology, College of Health Sciences at Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital (2014 - 2016). Up until his appoint as Vice Chancellor of the newly established Bayelsa Medical University, he was the Commissioner for Health at the Ministry of Health in Bayelsa State.
Prof. Etebu is a renowned administrator, leader of men, teacher, mentor, sportsman and social activist. He is happily married and has 5 children.
