About the Program

The B.Sc. Biochemistry is a rigorous and intellectually stimulating four-year undergraduate program that explores the molecular foundations of life. It combines the principles of biology and chemistry to provide a deep understanding of the chemical processes that occur within and between living organisms.

This program trains students to investigate biological phenomena at the molecular level, including metabolism, enzyme function, genetic expression, signal transduction, and molecular pathology. Emphasis is placed on laboratory skills, analytical thinking, and research competence.

Students will engage in practical experiments, scientific research, and problem-solving exercises that prepare them for careers in biomedical sciences, pharmaceutical industries, food science, environmental monitoring, and academic research.

By the end of the program, graduates will possess the technical and theoretical expertise to contribute meaningfully to scientific advancement and biotechnology innovations, both in Nigeria and internationally.

Program Objectives

The program aims to produce biochemists with a sound knowledge of biomolecular sciences, who are equipped to advance healthcare, agriculture, biotechnology, and industrial development.

Graduates of the program will be able to:

  • Understand the chemical processes underpinning biological systems
  • Apply biochemical principles to research, diagnostics, and industry
  • Conduct laboratory investigations and interpret biochemical data
  • Utilize biochemical techniques for solving real-world scientific problems
  • Contribute to the development of biotechnology, healthcare, and drug discovery
  • Uphold ethical and safety standards in scientific and industrial settings

Graduates will emerge with:

  • Deep knowledge of biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology
  • Strong practical and analytical laboratory skills
  • Ability to conduct and interpret biochemical and molecular research
  • Understanding of the application of biochemistry in health, agriculture, and industry
