The Bayelsa Medical University, Yenagoa was statutorily established by the Bayelsa State Government in August 2018 and was duly recognized by the National Universities Commission, Abuja as the 4th Medical University, as the 48th State and the 170th University in Nigeria.

The Bayelsa Medical University, Yenagoa is a specialized medical university that is established to promote excellence and leadership in medical and health sciences through education, research and provision of health care services that will advance the mental, physical and emotional well-being of people all over the world.

DUTIES

The Registrar is the Chief Administrative Officer of the University and is responsible to the Vice Chancellor for the day-to-day administrative work of the institution except for financial matters which fall within the purview of the Bursar.

In August 2018, the Bayelsa State Government of Nigeria established a specialized medical institution in the State capital known as Bayelsa Medical University, Yenagoa. The Government did so in line with the provision of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that empowers State Governments to establish higher education institutions in the country.

The strategic focus of Bayelsa Medical University is to be able to produce medical professionals that are capable of being employed in careers in the diverse field of medical science in any part of the world.

Our strategies for accomplishing this vision is by engaging in academic collaborations, partnership and linkages with similar institutions both nationally and internationally, recruit highly qualified and experienced academics from any part of the world and acquire the most modern medical research equipment and facilities that will enable us deliver on our mandate.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE FOR 2023/2024 ACADEMIC SESSION

All prospective candidates who applied for admission into Bayelsa Medical University, Yenagoa (BMU) as institution of First Choice and those willing to change their institution and make Bayelsa Medical University their First Choice with a UTME score of 140 and above in the 2023 JAMB UTME are required to apply online at https://my.bmu.edu.ng/application/login and pay for the Bayelsa Medical University screening exercise online application form at a fee of N2,000.00 (Two Thousand Naira) only using their ATM debit cards on Interswitch.

Please note that some programmes have their cut-off marks above 140. Kindly visit BMU website at www.bmu.edu.ng to view the breakdown of the Cut-Off Marks for all the University programmes for the 2023/2024 academic session.

Admissions Requirements for the 2023/2024 Academic Year

For the upcoming 2023/2024 Academic Year, we are pleased to announce the admissions requirements for our 24 esteemed academic programmes. Please find below the guidelines for eligibility:

UTME Score Requirement: Prospective candidates who aspire to secure admission into any of our 24 academic programmes must have participated in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). To be considered eligible, candidates are required to obtain a UTME score that is not less than 140.

General O'level Requirements: Apart from the Health Care Administration and Hospital Management programme, all academic programmes demand a minimum of five (5) credits at the O'level Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination. These credits must include English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics.

Specific O'level Requirements for Health Care Management: For the Health Care Administration and Hospital Management programme, aspiring candidates should have a minimum of five (5) credits at the O'level Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination. These credits must include Mathematics, English Language, Biology or Health Science, Chemistry or Physics, and any other two subjects from the social sciences or arts disciplines.
