About the Program

In order to bridge diagnostic science with patient care, you will develop comprehensive competencies in laboratory medicine, biomedical research, and healthcare technology. A particular focus of the programme is on mastering both fundamental laboratory techniques and advanced diagnostic technologies through hands-on training in our state-of-the-art labs.

Over four academic years (three for Direct Entry), you will acquire professional competencies in clinical chemistry, hematology, medical microbiology, histopathology, and immunology, along with critical analytical skills for accurate diagnosis. Furthermore, you will learn to apply laboratory knowledge ethically and precisely in diverse healthcare settings.

The curriculum includes specialized rotations across all major laboratory disciplines, allowing you to develop individualized expertise in areas like molecular diagnostics, forensic science, or public health laboratory management. Upon graduation, you will be equipped to perform, interpret, and supervise medical laboratory tests that are crucial for disease diagnosis and treatment monitoring.

Beyond classroom learning, you will train extensively in our fully-equipped teaching laboratories and complete clinical placements in partner hospitals, gaining vital real-world experience with modern laboratory equipment and information systems.

Curriculum

The curriculum is based on the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (NUC-CCMAS) for the education and training of undergraduate students wishing to obtain first degrees in Medical Laboratory Science in Nigeria.

Admission Criteria

UTME Entry (4-Year Programme):

  1. Five O'Level credits (WAEC/NECO/NABTEB) in:

    • English Language

    • Mathematics

    • Biology

    • Chemistry

    • Physics

  2. Must be at least 16 years old by the admission year

Direct Entry (3-Year Programme):

  1. A-Level/JUPEB with a minimum of 9 points in:

    • Biology

    • Chemistry

    • Physics/Mathematics

  2. OND/HND in Science Laboratory Technology or related field (Minimum Lower Credit)

  3. All Direct Entry candidates must possess the five O'Level credits as specified above

Additional Requirements:

  • Medical fitness certification is required upon admission

  • All credentials are subject to verification

  • Participation in the university screening exercise
