WELCOME MESSAGE

The faculty of science was formally established in May / June 2019 and commenced academic activities with the science Foundation students of the university in July 2019. Of Nine programmes approved by the National Universities commission (NUC) for the University in 2019, six were domiciled in the Faculty of science: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Microbiology and statistic. Intensive academic activities for the Science Foundation Class commenced in July 2019 and ended in October 2019, after which successful candidates commenced their Degree programmes for 2019/2020 academics session. University Matriculation for the 100 level Science Student took place in January 22nd while lecturers formally started in 27th of January. Staff recruitment (academics and non-academics) has been pursued vigorously in all the Department.

Most Departments are well staffed to meet the academic challenges at this level of development of the university. Experienced professors either as sabbatical, adjunct or contract staff has been engaged to beef up the strength of our academic staff. Research activities are also ongoing, Younger lecturers pursuing Ph. D. Degrees are being encouraged to complete their programmes so as to concentrate more in teaching and research. The COVID-19 pandemics has adverse affected the programmes of the faculty but intense plans are being made for re-opening of the university soonest. The university Governing Council, the Management Committee and the university senate are very supportive as we look forward for resumption of academic activities.
