PROFESSOR UCHENNA ONWUDIEGWU

Professor Uchenna Onwudiegwu is the Director, Institute of Medical Education of the Bayelsa Medical University, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. He is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, a consultant obstetrician/gynaecologist at the Bayelsa University Teaching Hospital and also functions as the Dean of the Faculty of Science of the university. He holds the MBChB medical degree of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (1979), fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons in the specialty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (1987) and fellowship of the International College of Surgeons (1995). He is one of Nigeria’s celebrated medical education experts. He trained in the discipline of medical education at the Department of Medical Education of the University of Illinois at Chicago and is an International Fellow in Medical Education with distinction (FAIMER, 2005).
He is also a Harvard University alumnus and Harvard Takemi Fellow (1993/1994) and is certificated in Research and International Health. He is a major resource for the West African College of Surgeons in Assessment techniques and pioneer trainer for the College in the use of OSCE for training and assessment. He has been instrumental to the introduction and use of OSCE as an assessment tool in several Nigerian university medical schools.
